Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 822Minutes from the February 9, Meeting1. The meeting, held at The Smoke House Restaurant, was called to order at 6:30 PM by Larry Carter, Chapter President. 2. A motion for the suspension of the reading of the minutes was passed as several copies of the minutes were passed around the table. 3. There were twenty-one members and three guests in attendance. Alex Harwick, Dr. John Eagerton, Bobby Barrett, and Martin Arant were the guests. 4. Old business: The February 11 Young Eagles event was delayed until February 25 due to impending cold weather and a shortage of pilots. A reminder of membership renewals was announced. Due to the Auburn Flyin, the chapter cookout was delayed until March 18. Chapter was reminded that the cookout will take the place of a regular chapter meeting. Progress is being made toward putting RW 18/36 back in commission. Trees are being removed and the gas company has agreed to move the vent pipes. No date yet as to when work will be completed. Brett has agreed to set a weekend in May aside for the Wetumpka Flyin. Date to be determined. 5. New business: Dave Ramsey has been assigned to the newly formed airport advisory board. Two of our guests are also on the advisory board, Bobby Barrett and Martin Arant. 6. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30pm. 7. Dr. John Eagerton, Chief of the Aeronautics Bureau for the Alabama Department of Transportation discussed the decision to recommend to the mayor that RW 18/36 be closed for reasons having to do with safety of operation and liability issues for state and local government. He discussed the role his bureau plays in the operation of and oversight for all airports in Alabama. The Aeronautics Bureau was established just a few years ago and, with an increasing budget, has been able to work with Alabama Airports to provide for the opportunity for better facilities and increased safety.
